August 25th was not only a beautiful day, but it also happened to be the 50 year wedding anniversary for Joe and Sue. That’s the real story behind this blog. Joe and Sue took the family down to Quail Hill Winery, located in Berlin Hts Ohio off of Mason Rd, to enjoy a beautiful day at the vineyards. The portrait session included their daughter and son, along with their two grandchildren and both daughter and son-in-law. This family is actually an extended family through my place of work. I’ve know Joe and his daughter and son-in-law for over 10 years. As a matter of fact, the last time I have seen Joe’s granddaughters was when they were toddlers. Where has time gone?

Portraits in the vineyard were quite tricky, due to the lack of shade and direct sunlight virtually overhead. To make it work, I used a 400W off camera strobe diffused through a white shoot through umbrella and placed everyone with the sun behind them. I used both half and full power settings (depending on the position) to add enough light to offset the bright sunlight overhead and behind.
